I'm gonna play the devils advocate here a bit. An article by someone who admits they are for smaller, 10 years ago, and referencing schools of 1000 or more, and generally talking about the ones nearly 1400/1500 in cities.
You can find just as many referencing how the too small of schools, as we have, is bad.
There is a happy medium here and the happy medium should not be keeping the hummer with the 600 payments, 400 gas bills, and 400 insurance just because at one point you had the 2500 a week job and now you got 2 minimum wage jobs. Yes at one point the population and even economic factors in this area allowed for more schools. At one point, due to the coal industry, this area had a higher % of millionaires than most areas in the country. That's not the case now. Now could this area, if it had to pay for everything afford new schools, of just about any number, in the near future? I don't see how. I really don't and don't see how anybody can think that, but by the same token you have to pool your resources. This infighting and no offense intended, the argumentative natures by people who can only read news that fits their desires or can't read at all, is a bigger poison than anything the school board could ever do. I'm sorry, yeah kids will hear that their schools are going to close and it might be depressing or such but the people who have been complaining about this for 10 years, who talk about it being torture for their kids, dude, do their kids ever graduate??? The ones who have kept this torture up for those poor kids for years, keep doing it. Maybe instead of thinking they are saving the world, might should see that they are the ones 'torturing the kids'. Kids adapt far better than adults.

What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.
I feel like the "small schools are always better than big schools" argument is ridiculous...just my opinion.
BUT who here really thinks the schools with their current course offerings and class sizes is adequate? Just because these schools house a smaller student population, it does not make them better. If that's the case, then let's revert back to one room schools and just build one in every neighborhood.
Look at the best schools in this country...most of them don't have enrollments under 250.
I don't think most people have a solid grasp how poorly local schools are preparing their graduates for whatever lies ahead for them.
